The Consortium promotes Equality, Diversit and Inclusiony within its organizational structure and that of its affiliated members.

The SiNANO Institute Equality, Inclusion and Diversity Plan (EIDP) was approved on May 18, 2022 following the EC requirements.

SINANO Institute EDI Event at Granada, Spain, May 2026

On 19 May 2026, during EuroSOI-Ulis, SiNANO organised an Equality, Inclusion and Diversity (EID) event in Granada, bringing together young researchers and experienced scientists to talk about research careers and share their experiences.

The session began with an introduction by Francis Balestra, Director Emeritus of SiNANO, who spoke about the benefits of being part of the SiNANO network and the opportunities it offers researchers throughout their careers.

Three researchers, Sayani (Bhattacharyya) Majumdar, Carmen Moldovan and Michael Östling, then shared their career stories in a session moderated by Robert Mroczyński. They talked about their experiences, the challenges they had faced and how they had dealt with them.

After the presentations, young researchers had the opportunity to ask questions and discuss their own concerns with the speakers. The exchange gave them a chance to hear different perspectives and get advice from people with more experience in the field.

The event also included a research pitch and poster session, where selected participants could present their work and meet other researchers. Doga Selin Memikoglu, from KTH, was awarded for her research and presentation.

The aim was simple: to give young researchers a chance to connect with more experienced colleagues, ask questions openly and learn from each other. It was also an opportunity to strengthen connections within the SiNANO community.

A 3rd event was organised on May 14th, 2025 afternoon in the main EUROSOI-ULIS Conference Room with 4 Panellists and Q&A Session followed by discussions around the SiNANO EDI poster.
The Panel session was chaired and moderated by Carmen Moldovan, EDI Chair. The Panellists were Vihar Georgiev, Irina Ionica, Ivona Mitrovic and an external Panelist Monica Favaro – invited who helped to prepare the Survey and the Panel discussion, you can find her presentation here.
Beforehand, a Survey has been prepared to gather feedback from different actors.
A poster, presenting the EDI and advertising this Survey (with a QR code included), was prepared and was available at the booth level to gather conference attendees’ suggestions and questions before the Panel and their feedback after. It is important to mention that the booth poster presentation allowed us to extend the survey to the EuroSOI-ULIS attendees out of SiNANO. This increased the number of gathered opinions and improved the statistics.
