Year of creation: 2025

Type of technology:

Plant-wearable IoT sensing technology based on electrical stem bio-impedance measurement, combined with multi-parameter environmental sensing, low-power and low-cost electronics, and data analytics for real-time crop health monitoring.

Other possible applications of their technology:

The technology can be applied to irrigation optimization, precision fertilization, disease risk anticipation, plant physiology research, urban green infrastructure, forestry and agroforestry, landscape monitoring, and climate-resilience studies in agricultural and environmental systems.

Product solutions

Single, scalable, modular, plant-wearable IoT sensing solution combining internal plant stem bio-impedance measurement with additional environmental and multi-parameter sensors, low-power electronics, long-term autonomy, connectivity, and data analytics for real-time, in vivo crop health monitoring and early detection of biotic and abiotic stress in both hard- and soft-stem plants.

Disruptive innovation:

Direct measurement of internal plant physiological signals through electrical stem bio-impedance performed by low-power, low-cost, plant-wearable monitoring system. This plant-centered sensing approach enables earlier and more specific stress detection compared to soil, air, or other indirect external techniques (such as imaging-based and weather-based methods for instance) and is applicable to both hard- and soft-stem plants, covering an actual market gap.

Experience and/or interest in financing their product development through publicly funded projects:

PlantZCare has collaborated with universities, research centers, farms, and public institutions through pilot activities and applied research projects both nationwide in Italy and internationally. The company is strongly interested in participating in publicly funded programs to support further multi-site, multi-crop validation and scale-up goals.
